The Kansas City Canaries and Music Theater Heritage are partnering with the Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City to host a Blood Drive.

Donating blood is a generous way to help save lives. Since blood cannot be manufactured, donations are essential for patients in need, and your contribution can make a significant impact.

The Community Blood Center needs to collect nearly 600 units of blood each day to support local hospitals. With no substitute for human blood, we rely on volunteers like you to provide these life-saving resources.

How to Participate

Signing up is quick and simple! Just click here and follow the steps to get started.

Why Donate Blood?

  • Patients need blood.
In the U.S., approximately 29,000 units of red blood cells are needed daily, and every two seconds, someone requires a transfusion.

  • Blood helps in many critical situations, including:

    • Injuries

    • Surgeries

    • Cancer treatments

    • Childbirth complications

    • Life-threatening illnesses

    • Sickle cell disease

    • Conditions requiring transfusions

    • Accidents

  • One donation can save up to three lives.
According to the Community Blood Center, your single act of generosity has the potential to benefit multiple patients.

Join the Kansas City Canaries for our next workshop focusing on The Tiller Girls!

As a team we believe that cost should never be a barrier to dance. That's why our quarterly workshops are “Pay What You Can”.

The Tiller Girls, founded in 1889 in Manchester, England, by the visionary John Tiller, quickly became the epitome of precision dance and garnered immense popularity in the dance world. Stepping onto the stage with quick, flawlessly synchronized movements, the Tiller Girls left a lasting impact on audiences worldwide. Fast forward to the swinging 1960s and 70s, and their iconic performances at The London Palladium solidified their place in dance history. Yet, their origins trace back over three decades before the Rockettes made their debut in 1925. With a staggering eighty troupes captivating audiences from Broadway to Paris, and even gracing the silver screen in Hollywood films under the direction of Busby Berkeley, the Tiller Girls' influence was undeniable. Their legacy even inspired European revue directors to create similar dance troupes, a testament to their enduring appeal and John Tiller's groundbreaking vision in the dance industry.

Chorus Girl Workshop!

Join the Kansas City Canaries for a new quarterly workshop!

As a team we believe that cost should never be a barrier to dance. That's why these new quarterly workshops will be Pay What You Can at the door.

This workshop we will be getting groovy with some rhythm and blues. We will be exploring one of the Black originators of jazz dancing Miss Mabel Lee.

A little bit about Mabel Lee:

Mabel Lee was an American jazz tap dancer, singer, and entertainer. She began her career as a child prodigy, doing her first performance at the age of 4, and by the time she was 12 years old she was performing at the Top Hat nightclub in Georgia. She moved to New York City with her mother in 1940 to pursue a career as a singer and dancer, and soon joined the chorus of the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Mabel was also known for performing acrobatics with a chair, which was her novelty act!

During World War II, Mabel toured with the USO as a member of their first all-black unit. She travelled and did shows for the Navy, Air Force, and at different camps, as well as performing for wounded veterans after the war in hospitals.

She was known for her dancing in more than 100 soundies in the 1940s, thus becoming known as "Queen of the Soundies". Soundies are three-minute American musical films, each displaying a performance, and are generally thought of as "precursors to music videos. Played on a Panoram similar to a Jukebox".

Fun fact you can see several soundies played on a Panoram at the American Jazz Museum on 18th & Vine!

----- WHO IS INVITED -----
