Join the Kansas City Canaries for our next workshop focusing on Sandra Gibson!
As a team we believe that cost should never be a barrier to dance. That's why our quarterly workshops are “Pay What You Can”.
In this workshop, we have the pleasure of delving into the remarkable blues and shake dancing stylings of Sandra Gibson, also known as Mildred Pollard.
Sandra showcased her unique talent and partnered with the legendary Al Minns to achieve extraordinary feats like winning the prestigious Harvest Moon Ball. Despite her early fears, she conquered Lindy Hop with grace, even becoming the first female to lift and flip her partner. Imagine the enchanting performances she and Minns delivered at The Cotton Club among iconic artists like Cab Calloway and Sister Rosetta Tharpe!
Sandra's legacy lives on through her groundbreaking performances, including performing in Broadway show The Hot Mikado with Bill Robinson in 1939, Sandra Gibson's legacy continues to inspire dancers and audiences alike leaving an indelible mark on the history of dance.
